Group Travel Insurance - Volcano Cases
As you will be aware from recent press coverage the vast majority of travel policies provide cover against travel delay and trip abandonment due to specified events. However, delay or abandonment due to volcanic eruption/volcanic ash contamination is not one of these insured events.
We want to provide members with some practical assistance and have drafted some template wordings (see below) that members may use in their communication with airlines. This may not fit every circumstance but hope that it will provide some guidance.
Although we have already confirmed the situation in terms of the insurance policy cover, we have worked very hard with Millstream Underwriting Ltd to find a way in which we can assist members with some of their additional expenses. The good news is that we have been able to agree an ex-gratia travel delay indemnity of up to £100 per person (capped at £300 per family). This is subject to the member providing documentary evidence of their flight being delayed for more than 24 hours as a result of the disruption between 15th April and 21st April inclusive.
If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to contact either of us.
Kind regards,
Phil & Steve
