Group Insurance Scheme (GIS)
The Merseyside Police Federation Group Insurance Scheme is negotiated and arranged for the benefit of subscribing Federation Members by the Joint Branch Board.
The scheme covers a number of areas
Life Insurance
£75,000.00 – Death from Any Cause
Insurer: Sterling Life
Half Pay Supplement
In the event that you are reduced to half pay you may be eligible to a benefit of £50.00 per week, payable for 26 weeks – payment will cease if the member returns to work or leaves the Force. A further payment of £100.00 per week will then be paid for a further four weeks if you are reduced to no pay.
Personal Accident Insurance
If you are injured in an accident whilst on or off duty, you can (from 1st
April 2005) claim £14 for each week you are signed off duty, excluding the
first 7 days - for further information or advice on eligibility contact the
Federation Office.
Legal Expenses Insurance
This policy provides a full telephone legal advice service on certain legal matters and will also provide cover for Legal Costs, this extends to cover your spouse/permanent partner, your children or parents if normally resident with you.

Travel Insurance
This policy covers the member; their spouse/permanent partner and dependant
children up to age 21 providing they are travelling with both/or one parent
- this is worldwide cover for a 30-day duration - If you are travelling for
more that 30 days, contact the Federation. All exclusions are contained in
the policy document. Note there is an excess of £50.00 per person claiming. Click here for more info.
