@holiday Pay Update

Dear Colleague

As you will be aware there has been notification from the force in relation to the implementation of the Bear Scotland v Fulton ET case in relation to average holiday pay. We have had a number of calls to the federation office asking for a simple explanation of what this means to individual officers.

The above case was an ET case that was brought about by a private sector company but the result impacts on all workers including police officers. The national federation has been involved in negotiations with the National Police Chiefs Council (formerly ACPO) in how to implement this decision for police officers. Agreement was reached to include all of the stated allowances that have been circulated when calculating average pay for holiday pay. This entitlement is only applicable to the statutory 20 days leave that all workers are allowed.

Merseyside police have adopted a process whereby they will review all officers actual worked hours and allowances over a six month period and make a payment twice a year. The individual hours worked by an officer, including overtime and RD working, plus allowances will be subject to averaging out and paid twice a year in April and October. As they will all be different it is not possible to give individual details.

If officers have any queries in relation to individual payments they should contact the force pay department in the first instance.

I hope this clarifies the matter but the bottom line is all officers will be getting average pay when they take leave instead of flat rate which represents an excellent result for our members.
